I was looking for an easy PE credit for college, and I signed up for an Open Water Course. The diving consisted of fresh water lakes in Texas. The water was typical of a Texas lake, dirty, or so I thought. I could not believe my eyes when I went under for the first time. You could actually see, there were fish everywhere and I was hooked. At this point and time, I owned a convenient store just outside of Burleson. I would look forward to the weekends when I could leave my “real job” and drive 3 hours south, to Lake Travis in Austin or 1 hour east, to Clear Springs Scuba Park in Terrell to dive. I took as many courses as I could just for a reason or excuse to get back to the lake. Then I discovered what we as divers call “Blue Water”, I took a trip to Cozumel. Getting into the ocean to dive for the first time was amazing. I will never forget that first dive off the back of the boat. As we were going down to the reef I was amazed at the 200 feet of visibility, the colors coming from the fish and the reef, the amazing marine life that was surrounding me. I only thought that I was hooked before! I decided in September of 2000 that owning and running a convenient store was not what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. After searching for quality dive shops in the area, without having to drive a long way, I felt the City of Burleson, and the surrounding area really needed a quality-minded, complete dive store with a staff of knowledgeable people – an exciting and cool place for other enthusiasts and new comers to shop for scuba diving equipment and certification courses. I had made two decisions, one that I was going to open a shop in Burleson and two I was not going to spend the rest of my life in a cubicle! I began creating what is now Tiger Shark Scuba. After some planning, with much help, and support from family and friends, we transformed a very small corner of the Elks Plaza Shopping Center into a complete dive center. We opened the doors February 2001 and have continued to grow. I soon out grew the small corner shop and we moved just a few doors down to a bigger location, in August of 2007 we have outgrown the Burleson area and have now moved the shop into Arlington at our present location. At Tiger Shark Scuba, we pride ourselves on being a dive shop for divers. A place to come in and talk about your recent dives, continue your education, and fill your diving and travel needs. Our goal is to not only introduce people to scuba, but also make it a part of their lives. We would like diving to become a passion for you, as it is for us. We plan to experience all the aquatic world has to offer. Won’t you join us? Adventure Awaits! |
